about

My fathers father was a man of another time, in another place. He was among the last of a generation that could fix or build anything, was a painter, mechanic, plumber, carpenter, engineer, improviser, artist; whatever task was at hand he merely found a way to complete it. When he needed help he asked for it. When he didn't he did the job himself. When he passed I was struck by the strength and simplicity of his life contrasted by such a superfluous, and comparatively soft world. I know so many people who use words like paint, glossing over shoddy workmanship and insincere intentions. Pappy meant what he said always, and more than that, he did what he was and let the deepest qualities of his being speak for themselves in his tireless, disciplined actions.
